Urban Meyer Implies Tim Tebow Is Long Shot To Make Jaguars

As people continue to root for/against Tim Tebow's roster spot in Jacksonville, head coach Urban Meyer gave an honest assessment of the former QB's chances to make the final cut.

In an interview with the Rich Eisen Show, the Jaguars head coach expressed that while support from the coaching staff persists for Tebow to find his groove at the tight end position, their decision will ultimately be made similar to every player that makes the final roster.

"What's the percentage of making the team? We don't know, this is uncharted water, this is gonna be very difficult, but he's been doing great," commented Meyer when asked for an update on football's most polemic player.

As critics of Tebow's inclusion in Jacksonville continue to circulate the storylines, waiting for an ounce of nepotism expressed by Meyer, the head coach remains firm on tracking Tebow's progress and helping become the best teammate in a Jaguars uniform possible. "He's been doing great in practice, he's learning the offense as you can imagine. He's working as hard as anybody. I see a good camaraderie amongst the team and Tim, and it's been good so far."

News of his official signing occurred on May 20, and Tebow has actively been a part of the Duval County OTAs—sporting a stronger build that at least gives him the look of an NFL tight end.

Fuel for anticipation behind Tebow's addition to the team ride on the connection between Urban and Tebow, dating back to their success as two members of the Florida Gators football program. The relationship remains close as Meyer looks to mentor his former starting quarterback into a new role for a new team.

Urban went on to provide some positive feedback regarding Tim's new opportunity and his fervor to make the team, "We had a chat, and he said, 'Well, could you have a couple guys look at me?' And I said, obviously, let me think this thing through… Our GM was there, our tight end coach and our offensive coordinator were there, and they put him through a workout, and they came back to me and said, 'My gosh, this guy's in incredible shape. He's a big athlete. Our tight end room has been struggling.' … they gave him some things to work on, and then they brought him back, and they came to me and said I think we should give him a shot.'"
