The mid-1990’s were a simpler time. Yes, there was much acrimony about the baseball strike, but out of it grew this campy Baywatch scene, which aired in 1995, where Pamela Anderson and Mike Piazza had a quick conversation before having to rescue a woman out of a riptide:
Itβs good to remind yourself at least once a day that this happened…… pic.twitter.com/U4fTCl6z7O

Besides the campiness, another thing that randomly stands out to me is that no one appears to have tattoos. The amount of tattoos on the beach would be way higher if this scene were shot today. Also, in researching this piece, I discovered that this was not the only time Piazza and Anderson appeared on television together — they were also both participants in MTV’s sixth annual Rock ‘n Jock softball game in 1995. The more you know.
PS – They should bring back Rock ‘n Jock. We have a thousand different linear and streaming TV platforms, but no Rock ‘n Jock. It’s a major oversight.
I am dedicated a Born in the 80s, raised in the 90s kid. I remember watching this on TV.
Because all pro athletes go to the beach wearing their jerseys and carrying their bats.
TRULY THE *MOST REFRESHING* VIDEO CLIP I’VE SEEN TODAY/THIS WEEK/THIS MONTH/THIS YEAR/THIS DECADE/THIS CENTURY // VIVA PAM & MIKE (AND THAT HOTTIE IN THE BIKINI WHO WAS VALIANTLY AND SKILLFULLY RESCUED FROM THE RIPTIDE CURRENT BY PAM & MIKE)!!! π
At least it wasn’t with Piazza in a Mets jersey. Now, that would be unbelievable.
