Texas A&M Volleyball Player Ciera Hecht Makes Her Debut, Front Row Amy In Postseason Form & Tebow’s Advice To Urban

Videos by OutKick

Let’s get the day started with a few odds & ends that have piled up while I’ve been on the road in northern Michigan.

Chad R. came to the right guy with this question:

I hope you are doing well.  I was just curious who you personally think is the Cincinnati Bengals biggest 1st round draft bust in franchise history, or at least the previous 20 years?  I thank you for your time.

Well Chad, I appreciate this question because I have the definitive answer and it’s not debatable. David Klingler was the biggest draft bust in Bengals franchise history. Based on win-loss records, Akili Smith (3-14) was a total disaster, but it was Klingler (4-20) who was supposed to be the savior of a franchise that was coming off a 3-13 season in 1991 after the Boomer Esiason era. Klingler was a disaster and the Bengals franchise was a bigger disaster with the hiring of David Shula and it set in motion what we’re left with today — a franchise that hasn’t won a playoff game since January 6, 1991.

• Beau in Toledo sent me a BIG email late Thursday that included several different topics, but I wanted to focus on Beau being inspired by Ryan S. in NW Ohio’s gun mount on his mower. Beau also wants to buy Mike T. in Idaho a drink if they cross paths during Mike’s big cross-country trip.

Beau writes:

This no mowing on a Thursday has my schedule all jacked up.  Add to that my winning some cash at the Gun Raffle this past weekend has me frantically trying to design a turret for the FrankenMower to fit my new KelTec KS7.  My apologies to the League Member whose name escapes me, the one who puts his Freedom Rig on his Mowing Rig, but yeah, I feel compelled to Keep Up with the Brotherhood.

First and foremost, let Mike T. from Idaho know (not sure what state He’s in at this hour) that if he finds his travels taking him thru the 419, I’ll buy the first round if we all meet up on his way to the East Coast.     Please let Gerard W. know that the first time I saw a Starlink Train, I checked what kind of firewood I just put on the fire, and almost gave up drinking! (for that night, anyway)

It was awesome while it lasted, but I get why True Astronomers were miffed.  Hell, there are towns that have light pollution ordinances, just for observatories and Stargazers.    Maybe Commissioner Joe Kinsey can petition for a Starlink Train Week, when the Entire Planet can observe, just for a few days.

• Michael V. has some thoughts on the Urban Meyer conspiracy theory that the bar scene was all staged to end his career in Jacksonville.

Hey Joe, the other day in screencaps I read a social media post from someone that Urban Meyer wanted to get caught in that bar so he could get fired from the jaguars similar to the way George Costanza was trying to get fired by the Yankees. While it might be a little far-fetched I would like to point out that something similar has happened before. I know you and your audience probably don’t pay much attention to the NHL but as a lifelong New York Rangers fan I have seen a similar plot play out.

After the Rangers won the Stanley Cup in 1994 (ending a 54-year drought) the head coach, Mike Keenan, and GM, Neil Smith desperately wanted to part ways with each other. It was obvious that they didn’t like each other but because of their success, Garden management said nobody was going anywhere. A few weeks after the parade, Keenan left the Rangers claiming a playoff bonus check arrived one day late which constituted a breach of contract enabling him to sign with the St. Louis Blues.

I don’t think anyone believed that it was an accident. Keenan and Smith obviously devised the plan so they could both get what they wanted. I am not saying this is what Urban did but things in Jacksonville don’t seem to be getting better anytime soon and the lure of going to southern cal sounds very tempting. Great job with screencaps as always.

• Now, I need to get to a 10:18 tee time at Otsego Tribute. This golf trip has turned into a fall foliage sightseeing trip. Every tee box here in northern Michigan is like a Bob Ross painting. And they have black squirrels here!

The deer are out doing their thing before winter. The wild turkeys are everywhere. Let’s face it, it’s Pure Michigan®. Needless to say, my dad is enjoying himself…and having trouble gauging the speed of the greens.
