Tennessee freshman running back Cody Brown is entering the NCAA transfer portal. Brown made the announcement Wednesday morning on social media, thanking coaches and others associated with the program.
“Thank you to the Tennessee coaches and staff that recruited me and made me a part of their family,” Brown wrote in the social media post. “Most of all thank you Vol nation for the support and love you have given me throughout my commitment.”
Brown is 6-foot and 217 pounds and hails from Lilburn (Ga.) Parkview High School. He committed to the Volunteers in May and signed in December. His name has not yet been entered into the portal.
That said, Brown indicated on Twitter that he has indeed been released from his National Letter of Intent.
A consensus 2021 four-star prospect, Brown was ranked as the No. 18 overall running back in the class by 247 Sports. He was one of three running backs signed by former Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt, fired in January following an internal and NCAA investigation on possible recruiting violations. Former UCF coach Josh Huepel was hired to replace Pruitt.
