Teachers Union President Who Led School Closures Drops Daughter Off at In-Person Preschool

Be honest, when you read that headline, were you even a bit surprised?

Matt Meyer, president of the Berkeley Federation of Teachers, has been aggressively fighting to keep schools closed, claiming that reopening is unsafe until all educators are vaccinated. Meyer's title, mission, and reason — which the CDC has called nonsense — tells you much of what you need to know about him, but it gets better. While advocating to keep your kid home on Zoom, Meyer was just spotted dropping his two-year-old daughter off at an in-person preschool.

Hmm, that adds up well.

You'd think Meyer would be ashamed of his hypocrisy, but he's not. Remember, he runs a teachers union.

Meyer told Fox News that the video is "very inappropriate" and an "intrusion of his child's privacy."  Got that? He's the victim here.

"There are major differences in running a small preschool and a 10,000 student public school district in terms of size, facilities, public health guidance and services that legally have to be provided," Meyer added. "We all want a safe return to school. The Berkeley Federation of Teachers is excited that Berkeley Unified will be reopening soon with a plan, supported by our members and the district, to get our students back in classrooms starting later this month."

Other parents aren't buying his excuses.

"Meet Matt Meyer. White man with dreads and president of the local teachers' union," the group Guerilla Momz tweeted this weekend. "He's been saying it is unsafe for *your kid* to be back at school, all the while dropping his kid off at private school."

(The last part is true, but why does the color of his skin matter?)

Dr. Shelene Stine, who treats COVID-19 patients at Highland Hospital, is also reasonably outraged with the video. Stine has 3-year-old twins who attend the same preschool as Meyer's daughter and a 5-year-old attending kindergarten at a Berkeley Unified School District school.

"I am a physician. It is definitively the scientific agreement that it is possible to deliver safe in-person education," Stine said. "It's infuriating to know Matt Meyer says kids can't wear masks when kids in his preschool wear them all day long."

Another good point.

These teachers union leaders are not only hypocrites but rather foolish, hurting their cases with every word they speak. Randi Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers, is even more of a joke than Meyer. Despite educational declines, lost social development, and rising suicide rates, Weingarten claims the kids will be just fine and "recover."

Hmm, nice to know.

Stop listening to this guy Matt Meyer. He clearly doesn't mean what he says. Send all the kids back to school.
