Tampa Bay Buccaneers All-Pro OT Tristan Wirfs Leaves Wild Card Win With High Ankle Sprain
Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs left Sunday's Wild Card win against the Philadelphia Eagles with an ankle injury.
Late in the second quarter, Wirfs went down and limped his way to the scrimmage line on back-to-back plays. Wirfs stumbled halfway through a push from Eagles defensive lineman Ryan Kerrigan and gave up a sack on Brady. Hobbling off the field, Wirfs appeared finished for the contest before reaching halftime.
Multiple reports suggest that Wirfs is dealing with a high ankle sprain — likely sidelining the 2021 first-team All-Pro selection for several weeks.
The best-ranked lineman among the NFL's second-best O-line, according to PFF, Wirfs has been a prime contributor to Tom Brady's stellar season, and surgical 17-0 start against Philadelphia.
Coming into Sunday's matchup, the Bucs roster had already prepared for crucial injuries hindering the team. Wide receiver Chris Godwin has been out since his Week 15 ACL tear, Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones were missing from the backfield, and cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting was inactive due to a hamstring issue.
