Steelers DE Says He Won't Kneel for Anthem, and Screw Anybody Who Has Problem With It

As you're certainly aware, the decision to stand or not stand for the national anthem is a heated issue across all sports right now. Stephon Tuitt, a defensive end for the Steelers since 2014, is in the camp that he will stand:




Tuitt didn't weigh in one way or the other about how he feels about other players kneeling, but he's going to stand.

Another player who has chosen to stand is Giants relief pitcher Sam Coonrod, who did not kneel along with his teammates during the anthem before San Francisco's season opener against the Dodgers last week.

"I meant no ill will by it. I don't think I'm better than anyone," Coonrod said. "I'm a Christian. I just believe I can't kneel before anything besides God — Jesus Christ ... I chose not to kneel. I feel that if I did kneel, I would be being a hypocrite ... I didn't want to be a hypocrite. Like I said, I didn't mean any ill will toward anyone."

It's safe to say this will all continue to be a story in sports for the foreseeable future.
