Steelers Still Banged Up Prior to Seahawks Game

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin outlined the injury status of several players following the Week 5 win over the Denver Broncos and said this week's practices will be telling for many.

It was announced Monday that JuJu Smith-Schuster‘s return to Pittsburgh may have concluded sooner than he hoped as the wide receiver will undergo surgery to address a shoulder injury he suffered in the Steelers’ 27-19 win over the Broncos on Sunday. He is expected to miss the remainder of the 2021 season.

For several other players — including CB Cam Sutton (groin), WR James Washington (groin), LB Devin Bush (groin), and DT Carlos Davis (knee) — Tomlin said this week of practice will determine whether they can return to play Sunday night, SBNation reports.

Bush left the game Sunday with a groin injury, while Sutton and Washington were held out of the game in Week 5 because of their own groin injuries, SBNation reports. Davis has missed the last four games with a knee injury but could get back to practice this week.

Tomlin said Tuesday the team continues to monitor both OT Zach Banner (knee) and RB Anthony McFarland (unknown) as they work their way back from IR.

SBNation reports Banner’s 21-day clock is almost expired and the Steelers are likely to promote him to the active roster this week in Smith-Schuster’s place. If he isn't activated and his 21 days expire, Banner would likely be placed on season-ending IR.

"The first reported practice day for the Steelers is Wednesday, and the injuries to Bush, Sutton and Washington will be huge for this team as they try to stack wins before heading into their Week 7 bye week," SBNation reports.

The Steelers will host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 p.m. before heading into a bye in Week 7.
