St. Louis Hasn't Played in August, Still in Second Place

Fans of the St. Louis Cardinals have not seen their team since July 29. There are a few storylines that are set to develop when the RedBirds do get back on the diamond.

First of all, the NL Central has been such a disaster that with only five games played, the team still sits in second place behind the Chicago Cubs. Yes, seriously. Take a look.

No matter how the graphics try to paint the picture, the Cardinals are 5.5 games back. Sticking the team fourth on the list, doesn't make it so.

Secondary to that abnormality -- or at least disappointment for the Brewers and Reds -- is that the Cardinals are set to get back onto the field on Saturday when it resumes the season against the Chicago White Sox.

Having missed so much of the truncated season will make the next month and a half an aggressive scheduling mess for the team. It will most likely test the limited depth that the teams are allowed to have.

As pointed out by Ken Rosenthal, there will be A LOT of games in the near future.

The powers that be at least had the good sense to make double headers a seven-inning affair for the 2020 season, but that is a lot of baseball in a short amount of time.

Cardinal fans will have something new to cheer for though, when the team gets back on the field it will also be welcoming top prospect Dylan Carlson into the fold.
