UCF Will Wear Spring Game Helmets Designed By Pediatric Hospital Patients

I don't know if you picked up on this, but it's spring. The birds are chirping, the leaves are coming back, and spring football games are on the way.

The UCF Knights are gearing up for their annual spring game, but they're doing something this year with their uniforms that feature a really cool touch on players' helmets.

For their spring game, UCF divides into two teams named after the school's two mascots: the Citronauts (the school's original mascot which is a little cartoon guy with an orange for a body who wears a space helmet) and the Knights.

Each team's helmet will feature the corresponding mascot, but those helmet decals will feature some really special designs on them this year.

According to a post on the school's athletic website, UCF players visited Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children to visit with patients. However, there was another reason for the visit: kids were asked to help add designs to the decals that will appear on players' helmets during the spring game.

The final results look very,  very cool.

"Giving back to our community is a huge part of who we are as a program, so we’re excited to have our players represent the Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in this unique way in our Spring Game," head coach Gus Malzahn said.

This is a great initiative, and what's even cooler is that some of the kids who designed some of the decals will be on hand to see their handiwork out on the field.

"We're thrilled to have the kids at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children help put a special touch on this year's spring game uniforms, as they helped personalize UCF logos for our team helmets, adding their creativity and inspiration for our guys," UCF Vice President and Director of Athletics Terry Mohajir said.

The Knights vs. ‘Nauts Spring Game — as it's known — will take place this Friday, April 12.
