Rebecca Lobo Suggests Load Management For Caitlin Clark Amid 11-Game, 20-Day Stretch

Caitlin Clark has been a wildly busy woman over the past few months. And according to Rebecca Lobo, it might be time for her to take a well-deserved day off.

The WNBA legend turned ESPN analyst floated the idea Friday as Clark's Indiana Fever were set to take on the Los Angeles Sparks and the Las Vegas Aces on back-to-back nights.

"Curious if the @IndianaFever will rest @CaitlinClark22 (31 mg) and @Kelz_Hoop [Kelsey Mitchell]
(ankle) against the Aces tomorrow," Lobo posted on X.

"It will be Indy’s 3rd road game in 4 days and the 7th game in 12 days. Would stink for the CC fans in Vegas but might be the smart move for player health and safety."

Lobo later added: "The @IndianaFever are the only @wnba team this season scheduled to play 11 games in 20 days. It has happened only one other time since 2007."

After starting the season 0-5, the Fever got their first win of the season Friday night over the Sparks. Clark — the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 draft — sank a long three near the end of regulation to seal the victory.

So while it undoubtedly felt good to (finally) get the first W in the books, Clark has to be exhausted. She hasn't had any time to relax over the last 12 months. In her final season at Iowa, Clark broke the all-time NCAA Division I college basketball scoring record and took her team to the National Championship game.

Then, she was immediately thrown into the grueling schedule of the WNBA, where she's been signing brand deals left and right, packing arenas wherever she goes and constantly dealing with haters.

For years, load management has been standard practice in the NBA as teams have allowed non-injured star players to rest during the regular season in order to stay healthy for the postseason. But the men's season is also twice as long as the women's (82 games versus 40), so the strategy doesn't make much sense for the WNBA.

That said, Lobo thinks Clark could use just one day to chill.

We'll find out if that happens as the Fever are set to take on the reigning back-to-back champion Aces on Saturday night.
