Letitia James Takes A Break From Attacking Trump To Threaten Official Defending Women In Sports

Bruce Blakeman is not backing down from his decision to protect fairness and safety in women's sports.

The Nassau County (New York) official signed an executive order last week denying permits to use facilities if a biological male plays on a girls' team — an action Blakeman deemed "necessary to maintain fairness for women’s athletic opportunities."

The rule states: "any sports, leagues, organizations, teams, programs, or sports entities must expressly designate as one of the following based on the biological sex at birth of the team members/participants when applying for a use and occupancy permit to utilize Nassau County Parks property for the purposes of organizing a sporting event or competition: 1) Males, men or boys or 2) Females, women or girls or 3) Coed or mixed, including males and females."

Per the order, Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation & Museums may not issue permits to athletic events specifically designated for females if they allow males to participate.

Nassau County is a suburban county located on Long Island, immediately east of New York City.

Bruce Blakeman's Order To Protect Women's Sports Receives Pushback

But not everyone is on board with Blakeman's order, including New York State Attorney General Letitia James. On Friday, James sent a cease-and-desist order threatening legal action if the Republican official doesn’t "immediately rescind" his "transphobic and blatantly illegal" sports ban.

"The law is perfectly clear: you cannot discriminate against a person because of their gender identity or expression. We have no room for hate or bigotry in New York," James said in a news release. "This executive order is transphobic and blatantly illegal. Nassau County must immediately rescind the order, or we will not hesitate to take decisive legal action."

But Blakeman isn't backing down. The executive immediately fired back a response to James' threats.

My executive order stops the bullying of women and girls by transgender biological males who have numerous outlets to compete in sports without putting the safety and security of females in danger.
In Nassau County and throughout the country, we recognize women as a protected class and will continue to fight for their right to be safe, secure, and have a level playing field to compete.

In a post on X, he had some stronger words: "Nassau County will protect women and girls' right to compete in sporting events in female leagues WITHOUT biological males bullying their way onto those teams."

Your move, Letitia James.
