Mets All-Star Pete Alonso Winning Over Fans And Dogs

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is coming through in a big way for animal shelters, as the 3-time All-Star has pledged to donate $1,000 for every home run he hits this coming season.

I think you can all agree with me when I say that I hope Alonso breaks the damn Home-Run single-season record!

ALONSO WAS THE 2019 HOME-RUN LEADER WITH 53

"The Alonso Foundation and I are going to be donating $1,000 per home run to animal rescues. We're going to be trying to tackle the issue of trying to get animals out of kill shelters, so we're going to be helping as many animals as possible - whether that's paying for transport, beds, toys, supplies, blankets - the whole bit!" Alonso told reporters this morning.

"We're going to be donating certain money to rescues to take in animals - especially dogs out of kill shelters," the 29-year-old continued.

And hey, if that's what it takes for Alonso to get some extra incentive to start cracking balls out of CitiField, then he's all for it. "Hopefully there are lots of home runs to come this year!" he exclaimed.

Immediately, fans on social media began chiming in about how much money they think Alonso will now be donating.

Besides the obvious good deed that Alonso will be doing to help rescue dogs, it's also a solid PR move for him.

Many Mets fans have been screaming at billionaire owner Steve Cohen to re-sign Alonso and make him a forever Met. Last season, his 48 home runs put him third in all of baseball, while his 118 RBIs put him second. Yet, he still doesn't have a contract besides this year's arbitration-negotiated one-year, $20.5 million.

But now that Pete Alonso is also going to help DOGS on top of everything else, open up that checkbook, Uncle Stevie and do the right thing.
