Mark Andrews Comes Up Clutch During In-Flight Medical Emergency

Mark Andrews of the Baltimore Ravens became an unexpected hero on a flight from Baltimore to Phoenix.

The star tight end intervened when a woman suffered a medical emergency during the flight. Normally, an NFL star doesn't possess the medical acumen to save a person's life, but in this case, Andrews was the right guy for the job.

Andrews' effort helped stabilize the woman's heartbeat in what probably felt like a hectic circumstance amid an ongoing flight. A passenger, Andrew Springs, aboard the flight with Andrews and the woman with the medical emergency detailed the scene on X.

Springs credited Andrews for both aiding the situation and deliberately avoiding any mention afterward.

He posted:

"A woman on my Southwest flight from Baltimore to Phoenix this morning had a mid-flight medical emergency. The doctor and nurse attending to her couldn’t find a strong pulse, her blood pressure was extremely low, and required oxygen to breathe. It was genuinely scary."

Andrews, a Type 1 diabetic, aided the on-flight medical team as they struggled to find a pulse on the unresponsive woman.

"Could it be her blood sugar? I have a diabetic testing kit," Mark Andrews said, then instructing the crew on how to use the kit. The collective effort helped stabilize the woman until they all landed safely.

"Paramedics met the flight as soon as we landed," Springs added on X. "Andrews deplaned quietly. No fanfare. As he has done his whole career, he stepped up in a huge moment when people needed him most. Watching complete strangers spring into action to help save someone’s life is truly amazing."

You never know what these pros have up their sleeves.

Andrews responded to the buzz surrounding his heroics via a Baltimore Ravens press release.

"In addition to the fast-acting flight attendants, the real heroes are the nurse and doctor who also happened to be on the plane. Thankfully they were able to provide the woman the quick assistance she needed."

Mark Andrews has been Herculean in several ways this year.

Despite falling short of a Super Bowl with a loss to the Chiefs in Sunday's AFC Championship Game, Andrews surpassed all expectations of returning to the team this year after suffering a cracked fibula in Week 11.

Lamar Jackson's top receiving target missed the final seven games of the season but returned in the postseason when his team needed him most.

Though Andrews couldn't shake off the rust in time, logging two catches for 15 yards, he also was incapable of curing the woes in a game in which the Ravens collectively lost the game.
