Jay Bilas Unleashes On Court Storming After Duke Disaster

Jay Bilas is sick and tired of students storming the court, but he doesn't think it will come to an end.

Duke star Kyle Filipowski was injured this past weekend and suffered a sprained ankle when Wake Forest students stormed the court.

Instead of getting Duke players off the court, students flooded the court, Filipowski got injured and all hell broke loose.

It was only a matter of time before a player was injured thanks to these antics, and we all watched it happen Saturday afternoon. Bilas, a former Duke player, wants to see it end, but knows it won't.

Jay Bilas unloads on court storming after Kyle Filipowski injury.

I've long argued storming the court is for losers who don't expect to win, and while Bilas might not go that far, he definitely made it clear he isn't a fan.

"It’s got to stop but it’s not going to. There’s no appetite in college basketball to stop it. The SEC has a rule against it but the institutions are happy to pay the fine because they like the visual. And the truth is, we in the media like the visual too. We put it at the end of every highlight. Years ago, when people used to run out on the field or on the floor, we wouldn’t show it. That was our policy. We don’t have that kind of policies with court stormings. We like it. It’s not stopping and it’s a shame," Bilas said after the Duke incident while on ESPN, according to The Spun.

Go off, Jay. Go off.

As I said above, it was only a matter of time before a player got hurt. It was inevitable. You can't have hundreds of thousands of people storming a court and not have an injury eventually happen.

I was watching the game with some Duke fans, and they immediately feared Filipowski tore his ACL. I thought the same thing seeing what his knee looked like.

Fortunately, it was *only* a sprained ankle. It's a miracle it wasn't worse. Yet, people will just talk about court storming just being about kids having fun.

Sure, it's all fun and games until a guy with an NBA future gets hurt. Who is going to be held responsible for that? Is Wake Forest liable for anything that happens on the court? Of course, these aren't questions we're supposed to ask. Instead, fans should clap their hands like trained seals whenever there's a court storming.

It should definitely be allowed in very isolated and narrow circumstances like winning a title. However, the nonstop court stormings have to end. Disagree? Let me know at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
