Fox Sports' Alexi Lalas Calls Out Lindsey Horan For Calling American Soccer Fans 'Dumb'

FOX Sports’ Alexi Lalas showed USWNT captain Lindsey Horan a red card for her recent comments about American soccer fans.

The USWNT finally said goodbye to the likes of Megan Rapinoe, the brains of the team’s progressive propaganda machine. At long last, this hated program has a chance to reinvent itself as a somewhat likable squad.

But that chance ended when Horan opened her mouth earlier this week

For absolutely no reason at all, the captain of the team decided to call American fans "dumb."

"American soccer fans, most of them aren’t smart," she said. "They don’t know the game. They don’t understand. (But) it’s getting better and better."

I’m not exactly sure who taught her basic interview etiquette, but calling the relatively small demographic of people who loyally support you "dumb" breaks pretty much every guideline imaginable. OutKick’s Mark Harris nailed it when he said that Rapinoe’s departure didn’t change the insufferable nature of the team.

When Lalas caught wind of Horan’s comments, he pointed out how they would damage an already frail relationship the team has with the American people.

"So, not satisfied with already turning off many Americans who don’t watch soccer, evidently the #USWNT has now set their sights on turning off many Americans who do watch soccer. Bold strategy," he wrote on X.

He added that he enjoyed watching Horan play and thought she was a likable person. But he accurately pointed out that this will only worsen the team’s chances of re-branding itself as a team worth supporting.

"I actually think American soccer fans are arguably some of the most educated, interesting, and well-rounded in the game," he continued. "In a country where soccer isn’t king, American soccer fans have often had to seek and discover the game, domestically and internationally. This proactive approach, out of necessity, has given American soccer fans a unique appreciation and view of the game."

While that may be true of how Americans view the sport, it could be quite a long time before they have any sort of appreciation for the USWNT.  Especially if Horan keeps opening her mouth.
