Felony Indictment For Pat Mahomes Sr. Adds To Family Problems, But Son's Reputation Remains Pristine

The latest blemish to the Mahomes family name came Wednesday with news Patrick Mahomes Sr. had been indicted for a felony drunk-driving charge.

Mahomes Sr. faces a potential 10-year prison sentence and up to a $10,000 fine in connection to his drunk driving arrest by police in Tyler, Texas on February 3.

The formal indictment came March 28 and was classified as a felony because it was the third such arrest for Mahomes Sr., according to Smith County records.

The arrest, you should know, happened one day before Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs kicked off their Super Bowl week in Las Vegas, which culminated in a 25-22 overtime win against the San Francisco 49ers.

Patrick Mahomes Rep Remains Clean

And the lingering question this and other missteps by family members presents is how Patrick Mahomes can manage to play so well and keep his reputation so squeeky clean while being surrounded by people that are so often in trouble?

Call it Mahomes's second-greatest gift behind playing quarterback better than anyone else.

Mahomes is not just great at his craft, he's great at keeping himself and his respectability pristine while others close to him soil themselves in public.

Mahomes, a magician on the field, is a master with these many issues. He evades questions about the troubles as if they were a blitzing linebacker – who is cross-eyed.

He was asked questions about his dad's drunk driving charge multiple times during Super Bowl week. The questions were fair. And pointed.

But Mahomes deftly deferred his comments by saying he wanted to keep private family matters private.

Mahomes Sr. Has Been In Jail For DUI

Except the problems are not private. The latest incident marks at least the third time the elder Mahomes has run afoul of police on a drunk-driving related charge, as the indictment claims.

Mahomes Sr. was previously sentenced to 40 days in jail in 2019 for one of his previous DUI offenses. He was arrested and charged for public intoxication in 2016 during a college football game between Texas Christian and Texas Tech.

Patrick Mahomes threw 2 touchdown passes in a road win that October day in 2016 while his dad was being placed in handcuffs.

That's not where it ends.

Jackson Mahomes, the quarterback's younger brother, also has a history of problems with the law. He was sentenced to six months of unsupervised probation in early March after a judge in Jackson County, Mississippi accepted his no contest plea to a simple battery charge, according to court records.

If this sounds minor, it is only because three felony charges related to accusations that Jackson Mahomes grabbed a woman by the neck and kissed her against her will were dropped. The alleged victim refused to cooperate with the prosecution, leading to the dropped charges.

Jackson Mahomes Has Been Trouble

So Jackson Mahomes is in the clear. But he must avoid any legal issues for six months to avoid being remanded back into custody.

The younger Mahomes brother, 23, had previously sullied the family name with more immature stunts.

He once threw water on a heckling fan during a Chiefs game against the Baltimore Ravens. When Barstool Sports shared a clip of the incident, Jackson Mahomes replied, "They were thirsty."

He was once refused service in a Kansas City cocktail bar for being rude to the staff and then got into a tiff with the establishment online.

He was more contrite in October 2021 when he danced on a memorial dedicated to the late Sean Taylor during a Chiefs contest against the then-Washington Football Team. He apologized and said he meant no disrespect to the family of the slain Taylor.

Anyone googling Jackson Mahomes problems may spend some considerable time scrolling through 720,000 accounts of the issues you just read about.

All those accounts do nothing but injure the Mahomes name.

Brittany Mahomes Issues On Social

It should be noted that Brittany Mahomes, the quarterback's wife, has never faced any legal problems. But she has made news for social media activities that some believe are not befitting the wife of NFL royalty.

The Brittany stuff isn't going to be recounted here. It's mostly social media trolling that adults worth millions of dollars don't typically concern themselves with.

Except that Brittany's last name is Mahomes.

So the most interesting thing about her commentary is seeing how, no matter how cringey, it has never harmed the personal reputation of Patrick Mahomes.
