Diver Eats It In Hilarious Fashion At Opening For Olympic Pool

The Paris Olympics are just a few months away, so it's time to crack open a bottle of champagne and christen some new Olympic facilities.

And the pool that will be used for the diving competition opened with a real bang, only that bang was the sound of one diver's spine hitting the 3-meter springboard.

French diver Alexis Jandard was part of the pool-opening festivities in Paris, and he was one of three divers who appeared to be doing a synchronized dive from the springboard.

However, as he did one of those moves divers to get the board to spring them up higher, he lost his footing and went down hard.

I'm going, to be honest, I'm surprised that it doesn't happen more regularly. I know those springboards are textured, but you're trying to jump barefooted off of something that does nothing but spring and get dripped on by others. You'd think this would happen at least several times every Olympic cycle.

To Jandard's credit, he's been a good sport about the mishap that would probably cause most of us to change our name, quit diving, renounce our citizenship, and move to a different continent.

He posted the incident several times on his Instagram account, including this video that shows some of the aftermath of landing on his back.

Good for him for just rolling with everything and taking it in stride. Just because he ate it in front of a bunch of people, doesn't mean he isn't probably one of France's best fivers.

Still, if you're superstitious, I don't know how you watch that incident and see it as anything other than an omen.

A bad one.
