Boston Bruins Anthem Singer Todd Angilly Announces Run For Public Office

You might know Todd Angilly as the guy who sings the national anthem before Boston Bruins games at the TD Garden.

Pretty soon, you could see him in public office.

Angilly announced last month that he opened a campaign to run for the Essex County clerk of courts. The Lynnfield, MA native is running as an "an independent candidate," and will run against the incumbent clerk, Thomas Driscoll, Jr. Angilly’s presence marks the first time that Driscoll, Jr. has faced opposition for his seat since he beat six Democrats in a 2000 primary.

In addition to his part-time hobby of energizing the 17,000-plus fans who cheer on the Bruins, Angilly works a day job as the director of workforce development at the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security. Should he win, he’ll earn a six-year-term serving Essex County.

Aside from a Facebook page, Angilly has not made a ton of effort to advertise for his campaign (he also declined to comment for NBC Boston). However, his presence as a beloved member of the Boston sports community would definitely help get the word out.

Angilly replaced Rene Rancourt after he retired in October of 2019. Rancourt had held the position for 42 years and became synonymous with Bruins culture. Since, then, Angilly has done an exceptional job at fulfilling those duties.
