Angel Reese Is Now Co-Owner Of A Professional Women's Soccer Team

Angel Reese is making money moves.

The Chicago Sky rookie announced Tuesday that she is now a part-owner of DC Power Football Club, Washington's new women's pro soccer team. The Power will begin their first season in August as one of the eight founding teams in the USL Super League.

"So grateful & blessed for this new ownership!" Reese wrote on X. "Looking forward to creating new opportunities for women in professional soccer. I’ve always had to desire to invest in a local team as a Maryland native!"

Reese played her college ball at LSU before being drafted No. 7 overall by Chicago. But "Bayou Barbie" was born and raised in the Baltimore suburb of Randallstown, and she is deeply connected to the D.C. area.

"Angel’s decision to be a founding investor alongside us in Power FC is groundbreaking," Jason Levien, D.C. United CEO and Co-Chairman, said in a statement. "As a Maryland native, Angel is so passionate about being a catalyst for positive change in women’s sports in the DMV as well as globally, while inspiring the next generation of female athletes. We’re looking forward to her partnership in the boardroom as an equity partner."

According to The Athletic, other investors include D.C. United and various "community and business leaders" from the area. Washington Nationals' pitcher Josiah Gray and Washington Capitals' Center Hendrix Lapierre also joined DC Power's ownership group this week.

Love her or hate her, Reese is clearly doing well for herself. While the 22-year-old is only set to earn $73,439 in her first WNBA season, she has various brand partnerships, including Beats By Dre and Good American jeans. She also signed a deal with Reebok earlier this month that includes a signature shoe and her own capsule collection.

Reese joins a growing list of professional athletes investing in soccer teams that includes J.J. Watt (Burnley FC), Patrick Mahomes (the NSWL’s Kansas City Current), and Magic Johnson, Mia Hamm, and Nomar Garciaparra (Los Angeles FC), among others.
