Soap Opera Continues: Jake Paul Says He’s ‘Retired’ From Boxing

Videos by OutKick

It is not clear exactly what YouTube personality turned boxer Jake Paul is trying to do by announcing his retirement from the ring less than 24 hours after defeating Tyron Woodley in a split decision in Cleveland on Sunday night, but the internet star took to social media Monday to do so.

“Updated status: Retired boxer,” Paul tweeted on Monday.

The tweet was accompanied by an updated Twitter bio in which he describes himself as “the face of the fight game.”

“I’ve dedicated the past 18 months to this. I haven’t stopped. I think I might need to need chill out for a second, figure out who I am,” Paul told Showtime immediately after the bout. “I’m only 24. I’m changing, I’m growing, I’m learning a lot. I’m going through ups and downs. I’m making mistakes, but I’m keeping my head on straight. I’m just going to get back in the gym when I’m ready and we’ll see.”

Cleveland.com reports it’s more likely Paul, who earned a reported $2 million on Sunday, is biding his time as he lines up his next big payday. Potential opponents include Tommy Fury or even Woodley again.

Paul can always brag about leaving the ring undefeated at 4-0 if this was his last fight, though.
