After the football season, I asked the OutKick readers which TV shows they were watching and which ones I should begin following. Snowfall on FX was among the many answers, popping up a few different times. Snowfall is a crime series in its fourth season that looks interesting based on a few trailers. It turns out, it’s not just worth a watch but an all-timer, better than The Wire, at least according to MAL.
A ferocious fight broke out on Twitter Thursday morning when MAL, a previous co-host of The Joe Budden Podcast, proclaimed that Snowfall had surpassed The Wire:
Snowfall is better than The Wire in my humble opinion.
— MAL (@MAL___) April 15, 2021
You’d think that tweet is harmless, but it’s not. Wire stans are looking for war, always. Surprisingly, so are Snowfall viewers, of whom I guess there are many. Nevertheless, MAL got, what the Twitter users call, ratioed.
Though I feel all nasty TV debates online need my input, as someone who has yet to view Snowfall, I must to sit this one out.
Here’s what I can say:
Critics often claim The Wire is the greatest series of all time. I disagree and rank it somewhere below The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, and The Leftovers. That said, I fully recognize The Wire‘s brilliance from top to bottom. On my list, The Wire is not No. 1 but high.
Unless Snowfall is a top 5 show ever, which seems doubtful, MAL deserved some of the rude tweets he received following his — not so — humble opinion.
For those who have watched both shows: which is better?
The Leftovers! Massively underappreciated and damn near perfect from start to finish.
I still think about the Leftovers from time to time. Binged the Wire when I was laid up a couple summers ago. Really good but not best ever. Never heard of Snowfall.
I have tried to watch The Wire beyond the first couple seasons and it simply doesn’t hold my attention. I don’t have a personal favorite of all time but shows like Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and more recently Ozark have kept my attention…but that does not in any way mean they should be defined as the best ever. You like what you like…
The Wire is fine, but very overrated.
Seen both, The Wire is definitely better. The writer and producer is a left wing nut but it was a great show. Stringer Bell was a bad dude.
Apples and oranges. The Wire and Snowfall are both awesome. The Sopranos was the best.
Snowfall is loosely based on Ricky Ross.
The Wire is based on what’s been happening in every liberal city forever. Rampant crime, corrupt politicians, no middle class. Haves and have nots.
It’s all completely subjective, but I’d rank them all ahead of Breaking Bad. It was good, but the cast is “Snowflake”, so I’m a little biased.
Yes, simply cause the Wire went to complete shit after the third season(just for starters).
Deadwood. Best ever.
The Wire is better Deadwood was best,For newer series Queen of the South is better than Snowfall never heard of Leftovers but will check it out.
Best show no one has ever heard of. And better than most ones that people have. Top 5 all time in my opinion.
Franklin Saint is no Avon Barksdale nor Marlo Stanfield….and none of them can hold a candle to the Greek.
Anyone that rates Leftovers as a top 3 show loses all respect. That show had potential but man it left me empty at the end. The Wire is amazing and so is Snowfall. This season, particularly, is great viewing. Just skip the leftovers and leave them for just that. Snowfall is the best show on tv right now. Until Billions comes back. Now that is the best show on tv!!
