Shaquille O’Neal is speaking out about his upcoming wrestling match in All Elite Wrestling, a mixed tag team match against Cody Rhodes & Red Velvet in which he will be paired with Jade Cargill.
O’Neal hasn’t been in the ring much over the years, though he is a huge wrestling fan. He wrestled in WrestleMania 32 as part of the WWE’s André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.
He will need to do more to prove himself in the mixed tag on March 3rd as part of AEW’s weekly televised event on “AEW Dynamite.”
“Oh, I’m winning,” O’Neal said via the Associated Press. “Guaranteed. I’m the type. I can never back down from a challenge. I’m not a professional wrestler, but I’ve been in a match before.
“I’ve got a lot of moves in my arsenal. When you step inside somebody’s world, you have to stick to what you’re masterful at. I’m not acrobatic. I’m not going to be jumping off the ropes. I’m coming with the power game. When I get hands on him, I’m going to display this power. I’m the type that if I have a look and see you do it, I got it.”
There’s a little more at stake for O’Neal during the event, as new AEW wrestler/commentator Paul “Big Show” Wight is going to be at the show, and there may be a confrontation between the two.
The two talked about a match at WWE’s WrestleMania 33, but it fell through. Now in AEW, the two can spend time promoting a match if the two come to terms on a deal.
For now though, O’Neal is focused on his mixed tag and says that this will be the best ‘celebrity’ match in wrestling history.
“This one will top them all,” O’Neal said. AEW Dynamite airs at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
