Shades of Jose Canseco: Padres Outfield Gaffe Helps Giants Steal A Game

Padres outfielder Jorge Mateo could have made a play at the wall yesterday off the bat of SF Giant Darin Ruf, but unfortunately, it was a ruf one. The ball bounced off his glove and flew straight over the wall for a home run like he was Jose Canseco. Not an easy play by any stretch of the imagination, but still a tough a break.

Mateo will have a million chances at this play, as he's only 25, but you never want a play like this on your resume. He has a day off today to think about it, and then he'll be right back at it Friday when the Padres take on the Texas Rangers in Arlington.
