Seattle Sounders Launch Jimi Hendrix-Inspired Kit

Few could play the electric guitar like Jimi Hendrix, and the Seattle Sounders are hoping that few will be able to play soccer like them.

So it’s only fitting that the Sounders would release a uniform inspired by Hendrix, a Seattle native.

“The Jimi Hendrix Kit was conceived as a way for Sounders FC to not only honor Hendrix and his place as a Seattle icon, but, on a larger scale, to recognize and celebrate the meaningful principles of peace, love and giving for which Hendrix stood,” the team announced in a release.

The uni is part of a “Community Kit” line released by Major League Soccer and Adidas. The Sounders called the primarily purple color scheme (with orange and yellow accents) one of the most unique designs in franchise history. It goes without saying that it resembles the psychedelic garb often sported by Hendrix himself.

So while purple haze may not be on the Sounders’ brain, it sure has made its way to their threads.

  1. Pretty cool. I wonder how much the shameless Hendrix estate gets. They’re infamous for copyright claims…even fair use You Tube vids where a small piece is used while the creator tells why the song is so good, or explains how to play the chords.

  2. Wonder how the “Summer of Love” will affect Seattle, Portland, and Minny/St Paul this coming season?
Projections of a $1BIL loss of revenue from shortened season and way less fannies in the seats. Not to mention espn is having money woes itself and they’re the major network for MLS.
Love EPL but won’t be watching MLS.
