Saints Set To Release Veteran Cornerback Janoris Jenkins

The New Orleans Saints have been spending the last few months trying to figure out how to purge the roster in the right way to get closer to the NFL's salary cap without depleting their competitive edge.

It sounds like the team is now set to make a rather big move, as reports state the team is going to dump veteran starting cornerback Janoris Jenkins.

The 32-year-old was a Pro Bowler with the New York Giants back in 2016, and in nine seasons with the Rams, Giants and Saints, he has 26 interceptions.

Jenkins was free to join any team in 2020, as he was a free agent. He finally inked a deal with the Saints after they claimed him off waivers late in 2019.

In 2020, Jenkins started 15 games, including both playoff games the team played.

New Orleans is looking to get into range with their salary cap. At the start of the offseason, the Saints sat close to $100 mil over the cap.

This offseason, the Saints have parted ways with Jenkins, receiver Emmanuel Sanders, punter Thomas Morstead, tight end Josh Hill and offensive lineman Nick Easton.

Many think that the team is also going to dump linebacker Kwon Alexander to shave even more money off the cap.
