Ryan Day on Clemson, Alabama and Notre Dame: ‘We’re Gonna Beat Their Ass’

Ohio State beat Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship to move to 6-0 on Saturday. Following the game, emotions ran high as Buckeyes coach Ryan Day addressed his team.

Locker room speeches are supposed to stay in the locker room. Unfortunately, that doesn’t always happen. Someone in the room posted the video of Day’s speech on social media, and let’s just say it was … interesting.

“I’m just telling you right now,” Day told his guys. “You give us one game against Clemson, against Bama or against Notre Dame, we’re gonna [expletive] beat their ass … I promise you.”

I’m sure this is going to go over well on social media. To be fair, it was locker room talk. It wasn’t supposed to get out, but … it did. And I can assure you some people are not going to be happy about it.

This speech was given prior to the College Football Playoff selection show on Sunday. It was announced that the Buckeyes would get a rematch from last year’s semifinal game against Clemson, this time in the Sugar Bowl.

In other words, Ohio State is going to get a chance to prove Day right.

I’m just glad we don’t have to wait a month for this game to happen. We’re only 11 days out, and things are already getting interesting. It should be noted that Clemson opened as 6.5-point favorites, according to Kevin Noon with BuckeyeGrove.com.

  1. Boy those words will be plastered all over Clemson’s facilities the next week lol. You might not want to piss off the Robo QB TL-2020 machine. Like anyone needed “more” reason to root against OSU getting handed a playoff spot.

  2. Yeah I figured Ryan day was the most overrated coach in college football for a little while now, and this pretty much seals the deal. Only thing better would’ve been northwestern knocking their dumb asses out.

This dude inherited a kingdom from urban Meyer, and he’s going to run his mouth because he beat six soft Big 10 teams. I can imagine the feeling in his stomach watching Clemson shred Notre Dame on Saturday night was not a very comfortable one.

  3. Ohio State has not done anything this year to impress me. They played 6 games w/ 2 vs teams with winning records. Both their good win (Indiana & NW) weren’t exactly statement wins either. Not surprised the line is opening with Clemson -6.5. OSU is the least deserving team to make it this year and I expect Clemson to cover.

  4. Take it from an NCSU fan, you do NOT want to give Clemson a reason to circle your date on the calendar. We used to sneak up on them every year and played some classic games, even pulled a few upsets. Our Coach and their coach have had some unkind words for each other, so now we get Clemson’s FULL attention every time we play them. They have torn us apart the last two meetings.

  5. As a Clemson grad, I like the thinking of the comments above. But, last Saturday’s game with ND was really the first game we have looked complete. Even with huge wins earlier in the season, the O-line was just not good. We have had trouble getting consistent receiving (except No. 3 who is a super star) as well. It seems things have jelled (how do you spell that?) now. TL is a great runner and will be a weapon vs OSU.
