Russell Wilson Denies Wanting Out Of Seattle, Says Goal Is To Win More Super Bowls With Seahawks
As rumors swirl about his exit from Seattle, quarterback Russell Wilson pledged his allegiance to the Seahawks Thursday.
The Seahawks (6-10) have bottomed out in Wilson's 10th season, but the seven-time Pro Bowler still sees success in Seattle's future.
"For me, I think what I’m really super passionate about obviously is my goal is to win more Super Bowls, and my plan is to win them here," Wilson said, via 710 ESPN Seattle. "It’s that simple. There’s nothing really else other than that."
Wilson, 33, has arguably had his most challenging season in 2021, suffering the first injury of his career. A finger Injury suffered in Week 5 against the Rams resulted in Wilson missing three games, ending his 149-game starting streak dating back to 2011. Wilson has thrown for 2,875 yards, 22 touchdowns and five interceptions on 65.2% passing. His 51.5 QBR is the lowest of his career.
Mark Rodgers, Wilson's agent, told ESPN's Adam Schefter in the offseason that the only teams he'd accept a trade to are the Cowboys, Saints, Raiders and Bears. Wilson is in year two of a four-year, $140 million extension signed in 2019. Wilson has a no-trade clause.
Head coach Pete Carroll denied any discussions of a trade taking place.
"The kind of conversation we have behind the scenes are not in line with the rumors. OK? There you go. No, they're not at all," Carroll said. "We've been talking, we've been together and connected throughout this whole season, and that's why it's easy to dismiss those at this time."
Ahead of what could be his last game with Seattle, Wilson said he has no uncertainty about what lies ahead.
"There’s no uncertainty in that sense for me," he said. "That’s how my mindset’s always been. I’m grateful just to put my cleats on again and go after it. I think as you continue to go through your career, every one of these moments, every step on the field, every time I get to come out to practice, I enjoy it that much more. I always thought I used to enjoy it when I was younger, I love it that much more."
