Richard Sherman Says He Wants To Play Two More Years

Richard Sherman says he has a couple good seasons left. And if not a couple good ones, at least a couple seasons.

Sherman, 32, is a cornerback for the San Francisco 49ers. That could change this offseason, as he is entering unrestricted free agency. Either way, Sherman told Stephen A. Smith he wants to play until he's 35. Since Sherman turns 33 next month, that means two more years.

"I want to get on a competitive team. I think I still have a lot to give to the game," Sherman told Smith. "I think I still have a lot that I want to accomplish, and I think I can go out there and help a defense come together like it should and reach their potential, reach the heights that the defenses that I've played on have reached."

It seems as if Sherman will move on from the 49ers, saying in December that it would take a "miracle" for him to return. He may be right, as the Niners have a fairly large contingent of free agents and not a whole lot of space under the salary cap. Older players such as Sherman are generally left out when that's the situation.

But he will certainly draw interest, as Sherman is still a smart defender with winning experience. Someone will sign him -- it just may not be the true contender for which he is hoping.

"After two years, I think I'm going to shut it down, regardless, because I'm sure I'll still get calls. I'm sure people still want to see if I have interest," Sherman said. "I think two more years, and I'll be content where I'm at."
