Report: Nicki Minaj's Father Killed In Hit-And-Run

The father of hip-hop artist Nicki Minaj was killed in a hit-and-run accident as he went for a walk in Mineola, N.Y., in Nassau County on Saturday, TMZ reported.

Robert Maraj, 64, was taken to an area hospital before succumbing to his injuries. Police still do not have a description of the hit-and-run driver, per Newsday.

"Nicki hasn't spoken on her dad's death yet. There are shots of them together embracing over the years, so they obviously had a decent relationship and saw each other from time to time," TMZ wrote. "It's unclear what Nicki's relationship with her dad was currently."

Minaj, 38, was born Onika Tanya Maraj in Trinidad and Tobago. Her list of hits include "Starships" and "Super Bass," and she has won multiple awards -- including six American Music Awards, 10 BET Awards, seven BET Hip Hop Awards, four Billboard Music Awards, five MTV Video Music Awards, six MTV Europe Music Awards and two People's Choice Awards.

She gave birth to her first child, a son, on September 30. She once stated that she "created characters" for herself as a child as an escape from her parents' frequent quarrels.
