Report: Eagles Won’t Bring In Competition For Second-Year QB Jalen Hurts

When the Eagles dealt former first-round pick QB Carson Wentz, many were still not convinced that Philadelphia was going to just hand the quarterback job to second-year quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Now it appears that the QB job is Hurts’ to lose.

Monday NFL Insider Chris Mortensen stated that the Eagles are not even entertaining drafting a quarterback with the 6th pick or thinking about going after a quarterback in free agency.

Instead, Hurts is going to get every chance to be the Eagles’ starter at quarterback, and his four starts last season might be enough for the brass in Philly to make up their mind.

“Yes, Jalen Hurts is the guy. Jeffrey Lurie, the owner of the Eagles, has basically sent the message to his personnel department and his general manager Howie Roseman that he wants to do everything he can to help Jalen Hurts be successful and not bring in somebody to compete for the job,” Mortensen said.

“Now they have a new head coach in Nick Sirianni, he understands what the owner wants, the owner gets.”

Philadelphia has plenty of other needs in free agency, and not having to draft or go after a quarterback is only going to help their roster.

“Jalen Hurts is the quarterback for this year,” Mortensen said.

“They don’t want to bring in competition for him.”

Last season, Hurts went 1-3 as a starter for the Eagles, throwing for 1,061 yards with six touchdowns and four interceptions.
