Report: Dan Mullen Will Interview With The New York Jets (UPDATED)

Update: OutKick owner Clay Travis tweeted later on Friday night that the report of Dan Mullen‘s upcoming interview with the Jets was inaccurate.

Original story follows:

Dan Mullen might not be on the college level much longer. The Florida head coach will reportedly have an interview with the New York Jets in the coming days.

“According to a source, Gators head coach Dan Mullen has an interview with the NY Jets in the next few days,” tweeted Claudia Bellofatto of WCJB in Gainesville, Florida. That tweet came late on Friday night.

There have been several rumors and plenty more speculation that Mullen was getting strong interest from teams around the league. Now, it looks like he will begin the formal process of interviews before deciding his future.

Mullen has been a head coach for 12 seasons now, nine with Mississippi State and three with Florida. His record sits at 98-55 overall (.641) with five seasons of nine-plus wins and three seasons with 10 or more.

The lack of experience on the NFL level makes the league's interest somewhat of a head-scratcher. But despite his excuses, the ability to develop quarterbacks like Dak Prescott and Kyle Trask makes him an attractive option for a passing league.

The Jets hold the No. 2 pick in the upcoming NFL draft. That pick could be used on a number of different quarterbacks, but whoever takes the job could also choose to stick with the former No. 3 overall pick in Sam Darnold.
