Red Sox Show Fans A Lot To Like, Early This Season

After losing three-straight games to start their campaign against the Baltimore Orioles — the Boston Red Sox have won five straight. And not only that — they got up off the mat against the defending American League champion Tampa Bay Rays.

Red Sox fans should be thrilled. They don’t suck this year.

Last year’s Red Sox were god awful at essentially every aspect of baseball. They didn’t pitch well, they struggled defensively (for whatever reason), and they shockingly didn’t hit. Sure, they lost Mookie Betts in a boneheaded trade to save money, but they still had reigning Silver Slugger JD Martinez to go along with shortstop Xander bogaerts and young bopper Rafael Devers. Plenty left for a powerhouse offense, yet they stunk up the 60-game short season.

But the main reason for their early season success is the resurgence of JD Martinez. He’s been on an absolute tear hitting .438 on the young season with three homers and seven doubles coming into the ninth game of the season.

Matter fact, he’s already hit another home run as I was typing article giving the Red Sox an early 4-0 lead over the Baltimore Orioles.

Boston is now in sole possession of first place and don’t be surprised if they give this thing a run. The New York Yankees already started dealing with injuries with the loss of first baseman Luke Voit and they really didn’t make any major improvements to their roster. Also, the Rays, who they’re currently beating, took a step back after losing star lefty starter Blake Snell to the San Diego Padres.

Boston still has room for improvement on the mound, but if they can find some young contributing arms sometime during the season — they’re going to be scary. And don’t sleep on up-and-coming slugger Bobby Dalbec. Guy has the potential to smoke 50 homers any year. It’s just a matter of when…
