New York Finds 12,000 More COVID Deaths that Cuomo Didn't Acknowledge

"Transparency will be the hallmark of my administration,” New York Gov. Kathy Hochul says.

On Wednesday, Gov. Kathy Hochul acknowledged the state has found 12,000 more COVID deaths in New York than Andrew Cuomo's administration had counted.

As of Monday, Cuomo reported that 43,400 people have died of COVID-19 in New York. However, Hochul says the actual number is 55,400, based on death certificate data submitted to the CDC.

“We’re now releasing more data than had been released before publicly, so people know the nursing home deaths and the hospital deaths are consistent with what’s being displayed by the CDC,” Hochul said Wednesday. “There’s a lot of things that weren’t happening and I’m going to make them happen."

In July, the AP found a large discrepancy between death counts publicized by the Cuomo administration and data reported to the CDC. Surprising to no one, the COVID data Cuomo cited at his briefings excluded people who died at home, in hospice, in state prisons, and at state-run homes for people living with disabilities.

"It also excluded people who likely died of COVID-19 but never got a positive test to confirm the diagnosis," the outlet adds.

In other words, Cuomo was lying.

“Also, as of yesterday, we’re using CDC numbers, which will be consistent. And so there’s no opportunity for us to mask those numbers, nor do I want to mask those numbers," Hochul goes on. "The public deserves a clear, honest picture of what’s happening. And that’s whether it’s good or bad, they need to know the truth. And that’s how we restore confidence.”

Cuomo also minimized nursing home deaths by excluding patients who died after being transferred to hospitals. It's all a sham. What's worse, the media celebrated Cuomo's "heroic" handling of COVID last year. They even gave him an Emmy, which they have since rescinded. What a joke that is. Aside from maybe Gavin Newsom, no politician handled the pandemic worse than Andrew Cuomo did.

Transparency was not a hallmark of the Cuomo administration.
