Republican Sen. Rand Paul continues to push back against the “mask theater” coming from White House chief medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci. In fact, the two sparred over the topic during a recent Senate hearing, and the exchange went viral.
Paul argues that masks become unnecessary after a person has recovered from COVID-19 or has been vaccinated for the virus. Fauci, on the other hand, continues to wear two masks and pushes for others to stick to wearing masks.
Well, Paul has had enough.
“Isn’t it just theater?” Paul asked. “You’ve been vaccinated and you parade around in two masks for show. You can’t get it again. There’s virtually 0% chance you’re going to get it, and you’re telling people that have had the vaccine who have immunity — you’re defying everything we know about immunity by telling people to wear masks who have been vaccinated.”

“Can I just state for the record that masks are not theater,” Fauci said. “I totally disagree with you.”
We’ve seen this sort of thing before, right? States such as Florida and Texas have made unpopular decisions regarding how to handle the virus, and so far, they’ve mostly been right.
Slowly, some states are beginning to lift the mask mandates. They’re over all the “follow the science” BS that has no science to back it up, and so is Rand Paul. We’ll soon find out if those states are correct.

Good for Paul. Of course this is theater. The Danish study made this very clear, which sorry libs is science. Once the mask became a virtue signal the left began frothing at the mouth to keep it going.

Sadly, the mainstream media’s coverage continues to make Fauci out to be some sort of god and Rand Paul as irresponsible. I don’t think I can wear the mask much longer, especially once I’m vaccinated.

I live in New York. If I want to work out at the gym, I’m required to wear a mask. If I want to go to the supermarket, I’m required to wear a mask. If I want to go to a restaurant, I’m required to wear a mask. Not sure what states you all live in, but count yourself lucky that you have a choice of wearing it or not. Believe me, I don’t believe in it and agree with Rand Paul that it’s theater, but it’s not a choice in New York.
My state has the same restrictions. We were the second to last state to reopen gyms – New York was before us. Choose your battles, certainly, and you will lose some, but you need to fight.
It is always a choice.
I am with you SadBengalsFan. Unfortunately, I can’t stay locked up in my house forever, if I want to go certain places I have to don the mask, at least to get in the front door. Then its the slide down the mask so I can breathe. Virginia is somewhere in the middle in terms of restrictions. I am a lawyer so of course if I go to a courthouse I have to wear the mask or I won’t be allowed entry. I don’t want to get arrested or disallowed entry because that doesn’t help my clients. Many individual business owners don’t enforce the mask mandates so that is a good thing.
It’s going to take mass non-compliance with these mandates to turn the tide. It starts with one, will you have the courage to lead?
I’ve been walking around unmasked unless it’s a tight, small room (i’m not stupid), but after i’m vaccinated, you’re discriminating against a healthy person, and i’ll go somewhere else. The free market will correct this very fast.
Receiving a shot does not make one a “healthy person”. There are other levels to discrimination that are far more troubling in this case.

Seriously, what are you afraid of? No one is being arrested or ticketed for non-masking, and getting asked to leave a business is no big deal at all. If a stranger asks you where your mask is, a direct “check your asshole, and then mind your own business” is quite effective.
It won’t stop until YOU make it stop.
Agreed but see my post above. Sometimes for work I have to wear a mask. How dumb would I be to throw a fit at the federal courthouse and get detained in front of my clients just to prove a point? That wouldn’t make much sense at all.
As I said, choose your battles. Of course people have to do it for work. But there are plenty of other places where compliance is discretionary. Push the limits. It is not an all or none situation, more like “as much as you can”.
Yup we are on the same page for sure. I especially find it mind numbing when I see people who are all alone with not a person within 50 feet and they still mask up, or in their cars. Like WTF is that all about.

It’s all just a way to maintain control through fear. The government never gives up power once it gets it. That’s why flatten the curve turned into maybe have a barbecue once the world gets vaccinated…but still take it easy. Honestly, it’s way late for politicians to START criticizing and questioning mask mandates. Um, that should have happened this time last year, but they didn’t do their jobs and push back for us. They joined in! Now they’ve successfully created an irrational panic to take back control of everything, and have convinced people a fiber mask that air can move through will magically stop microscopic viruses. It’s not science, it’s become religious. It also shows how easy it is to control a population if you just find what will terrify them. They’ll listen to and do anything without question. Our elected leaders have led us right into a disaster.
Even in “relaxed” states, municipalities and businesses can still be Maskholes about it.
I understand what both sides are saying. Yes it is very possible for a variant to re-infect someone that has only been exposed to wild-type. The problem is that we will never stop having variant forms of the virus, so by their logic, we never stop needing to have a mask, and that is wildly unpopular.
Is it possible that Fauci supports masks (stupid) because he knows the “vaccinations” are not true vaccinations? That they only lesson the symptoms if you were to get sick, and are not actually introducing anything that will help you build antibodies?
The Fauci relevance desperation tour continues. He is about 15 years past his expiration date. His political usefulness has come and gone. If you look at his body of work for over the past year, he’s contradicted his own advice. Fast forward to now. He’s fully vaccinated yet wearing two masks while trying to mutter answers to Sen. Paul. Some one needs to pull him aside and say, you’re out of your league Tony. Perhaps you should consider retirement.
