Gerald McCoy has been one of the best interior defensive linemen in the NFL for over a decade now. After the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him No. 3 overall back in 2010, the Oklahoma product gave them 54.5 sacks over the next nine seasons.
That marriage came to an end in 2020, but McCoy then latched on with one of Tampa Bay’s division rivals, the Carolina Panthers. There, he racked up 37 tackles, seven of them for a loss, to go along with five sacks.
In other words, he can still contribute to a rotation, even at 33. Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden agrees, as the team elected to sign the six-time Pro Bowler to a contract after he impressed in a workout on Wednesday.

The Raiders have some able bodies inside with Johnathan Hankins, Solomon Thomas and Kendal Vickers, but they still needed more help. Even at his age, McCoy can still be a valuable piece of the defensive front’s rotation.

Guys like McCoy are said to be washed up. But then they perform for yet another year. Good pick up for the Raiders.
