Raheem Morris Reportedly Set To Be Named New Rams Defensive Coordinator

It didn't take long for the Los Angeles Rams to fill their vacant defensive coordinator role. The team is set to hire former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris for the position.

Morris will take over for Brandon Staley, who was hired on Monday to be the new head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers.

Staley did an excellent job with the Rams' defense, leading them to a No. 1 overall ranking in 2020.

With Jalen Ramsey and Aaron Donald already on the roster, the job for Morris is a lot easier than taking over a unit without a lot of stars would be.

In his time as Bucs head coach from 2009 to 2011, Morris went 17-31, going 3-13, 10-6 and 4-12 before being fired.

The seven game turnaround from 3-13 to 10-6 was the best in franchise history, and Tampa Bay barely missed the postseason.

The Bucs couldn't maintain their momentum the following season though, and Morris' team slumped back to eight games under .500 at 4-12.

Morris also went 4-7 as interim head coach of the Falcons last year after the team fired Dan Quinn.

Many felt that Morris did enough to be a finalist for the Falcons' head coaching spot, but the team ultimately hired Titans OC Arthur Smith instead.

If Morris can build on what Staley and the Rams defense did in 2020, the coach could be up as a head coaching candidate by 2022.
