Pujols' Wife Clears Things Up: Her Hubby Is NOT Retiring

Los Angeles Angeles first baseman Albert Pujols is entering the final year of the 10-year, $240 million contract he signed with the Angels in 2011, and his wife appeared to announce his pending retirement on Monday.

In his 21st season, the 41-year-old is already regarded as one of the best hitters in baseball history. In 2020, Pujols hit .224/.270/.395 (80 OPS+) with eight doubles, six home runs and 25 RBI. 

A caption to an Instagram photo uploaded by his wife Deidre Pujols originally stated, " is the first day of the last season of one of the most remarkable careers in sports..."

Her post led some to speculate that he was retiring, so Deidre Pujols added a note to say it was "not an official statement" of retirement.

Pujols said last week that he was unsure of what his baseball future would look like after the 2021 MLB season. 

Pujols spoke with ESPN's Enrique Rojas on Monday night and said, "Nothing has changed" since he addressed his playing future last week.
