President Trump: Kaepernick Should Get Second Shot 'If He Deserves It'

President Trump, who famously said to fire a "son of a bitch" who knelt for the national anthem, now says he'd support Colin Kaepernick getting another shot in the NFL. Talking to ABC7's Scott Thuman, Trump said "absolutely I would" when asked about supporting a second chance for the former quarterback. "If he deserves it, he should," adding that Kaepernick faded after starting off his career on fire.

Kaepernick was 1-10 as a starter in 2016 with 16 touchdowns and four interceptions; his QBR was 49.5. It was his last season in the NFL.

Trump continued: "So, his playing wasn't up to snuff. The answer is absolutely I would, as far as kneeling, I would love to see him get another shot. But obviously, he has to be able to play well. If he can't play well, I think it would be very unfair."

The Los Angeles Chargers are on record saying Kaepernick is on their radar for a potential workout. Roger Goodell is encouraging teams to sign the quarterback and said this week he welcomes it.
