As if Philadelphia hadn’t had enough with the Carson Wentz trade to Indianapolis–now Phillies’ star catcher JT Realmuto has a fractured thumb. He’s expected to be out two weeks, but the team is ‘optimistic’ he’ll be ready for spring training.
Joe Girardi just finished his daily videoconference with reporters so now I will tweet — JT Realmuto suffered fracture in R thumb catching a ‘pen six days ago. Thumb is immobilized for two weeks. Girardi hopes JT will be ready for opener but not certain.

Realmuto just signed a five-year, $115.5 million extension with the team this offseason, so surely the Phillies would love it if he could make it to the party. I wonder how optimistic the Eagles were when they gave Carson Wentz $128 million?
The Phillies are looking to bounce back from last year’s letdown season, and if they want any chance, Realmuto needs to be there. From the sounds of things, Phillies’ fans shouldn’t have much to worry about.
On paper, at least.
