If you’ve been in a coma for the last 20 years I have news for you: Bill Belichick likes a bargain basement deal. His big get this season was Cam Newton for a pack of cigs and a $20 Ruby Red 7s scratcher. Now Bill’s reportedly looking at the free agent leftovers and has his eyes on none other than the ageless Delanie Walker.
Patriots tight end Matt LaCosse opted out of the 2020 season and opens up a spot at a position where Bill’s thin on experience. His current roster includes tight ends Devin Asiasi, Dalton Keene, Ryan Izzo, Rashod Berry and Jake Burt. Those guys have a combined SIX NFL receptions, all by Izzo. The other four guys are rookies.
Patriot opt-outs as of Sunday:
- Safety Patrick Chung
- Linebacker Dont’a Hightower
- Running back Brandon Bolden
- Offensive tackle Marcus Cannon
- Fullback Danny Vitale
- Offensive lineman Najee Toran
- Wide receiver Marqise Lee
- Tight end Matt LaCosse
It should come as no shock Bill would go scrappin’ to see what he can find for Cam Newton besides four rookies. Now imagine Bill winning the AFC East with a minimum wage quarterback and tight end. It’s clearly not as crazy as you’d think. Are the Bills that much superior to whatever Hoodie throws out there even while leading the league in opt-outs? I’ll believe it when I see it out of Buffalo.
Free agent TE Delanie Walker, 35, is training for the season and has received levels of interest from several teams, including the Patriots, per source. Had four straight 800-plus-yard seasons from 2014-17.
