Padres Stay Active In Trade Talks, Chat With Texas About Joey Gallo

The San Diego Padres continue to be super active in the MLB trade talks, as the deadline closes in on July 31st at 4pm Eastern.

One player whom the Padres appear to be willing to move is Eric Hosmer, the 31-year-old first baseman who has been with the team for the past four seasons.

This season, Hosmer is hitting .266 with eight homers and 48 runs batted in.

Jeff Passan, MLB Insider at ESPN, reports that the Padres are reportedly looking into a deal for with the Texas Rangers, who are going to be sellers at the trade deadline, for Joey Gallo.

"A deal with (Eric) Hosmer going to Texas and (Joey) Gallo to San Diego is a possibility, though it almost certainly would necessitate the inclusion of shortstop C.J. Abrams or outfielder Robert Hassell, considered in the industry as the Padres' two best prospects," Passan said.

Abrams is just 20 years old and was the team's sixth pick in the 2019 MLB Draft. This season in AA, he's hitting .296 with two homers and 23 runs batted in.

As for Hassell, he's just 19 years old and playing in A ball this season for the Padres. He has been impressive thus far in his time in pro ball, hitting .311 four homers and 44 runs batted in this season.
