Packers vs. Lions Thursday Night Football Betting Preview

Special to Outkick The Coverage from OddsShark.com

The Green Bay Packers have managed to lose three of their last four games against the division-rival Detroit Lions both straight up and against the spread as they head to Ford Field tonight. Green Bay opened as a 5.5-point road favorite against Detroit, but the Packers are now just three-point favorites for the contest as they try to break out of a funk that has seen them get tagged with losses in four of their last five games.

And that stretch for the Packers included an 18-16 home loss to the Lions in which they had been favored by 10.5 points. Aaron Rodgers completed 35 of 61 pass attempts for 333 yards with two touchdowns for Green Bay in that defeat, while Matthew Stafford was good on 24 of his 38 pass attempts for 242 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.

The Packers rebounded from that loss with a 30-13 win at Minnesota as a 1-point underdog, but last week they fell 17-13 at home to Chicago as a 7.5-point favorite. That has Green Bay in second place in the NFC North standings at 7-4 SU and 6-5 ATS.

The Lions, meanwhile, are just 4-7 both SU and ATS on the season, but they enter tonight's matchup on a three-game winning streak both SU and ATS that has seen them knock off the Packers, Raiders, and Eagles in succession. Detroit throttled Philadelphia last week, winning 45-14 and easily covering the 3-point spread at the sportsbooks.

The visiting team has won just once either SU or ATS in the last six games between the Packers and the Lions, while Green Bay is 19-8 ATS in its last 27 games against fellow NFC North teams.

The total for tonight's game is listed at 46.5 points, with the UNDER having paid out in seven of Green Bay's last eight games for totals bettors. The UNDER was also the right wager in the Lions vs. Packers matchup at Lambeau Field back in November.

Kickoff for the game is set for 8:25pm ET. Check out the complete Packers vs. Lions matchup report at OddsShark.com.
