We had a tough slate to navigate through last week from an aesthetics standpoint; only gamblers appreciated the pathetic slate of games and the opportunity to make some cash. Thankfully that list of misfit match-ups is in the rearview mirror and Week 4 of the college football slate offers plenty of star power. In our Vegas Top Ten Florida goes from 7th to falling out of the mix after the ankle injury to Felipe Franks while Notre Dame sneaks into the top 10 just in time to get blasted between the hedges. Our overrated team this week just pulled a stunner in East Lansing and our underrated team is now officially under the radar after multiple early season losses. For our best bet we return to Power 5 football after the Texas two-step last week did us dirty.
Bet the Board Top 10 Week 4:
1.) Clemson
2.) Georgia
3.) Alabama
4.) LSU
5.) Oklahoma
6.) Ohio State
7.) Auburn
8.) Utah
9.) Michigan
10.) Notre Dame
Overrated: Arizona State
Arizona State is ranked 24th in the country in both popularity polls after springing a 10-7 upset win as a 16-point underdog at Michigan State. While they became the talk of College Football on Saturday, we’re advising that you pump the brakes on the Sun Devils outlook for now. Their wins have come against Kent State (24.5 point favorite), Sacramento State (35-point favorite), and now a Spartan team that is really struggling on the offensive side of the ball. Herm Edwards is going to get the most out of his players, we can’t dispute that but the talent on the offensive side of the ball is severely lacking. QB Jaylen Daniels has only thrown 3 TD’s thus far and the offense has averaged a paltry 5.1 yards per play. Remember, that’s against Kent State and Sacramento State! Sparty also outgained ASU by nearly 200 yards while mustering just 7 points. This week the Sun Devils take on Colorado, a team that can move the football and it will be the first real test this Sun Devil defense has encountered this year. This is a decent “sell” spot on the Arizona State Sun Devils…more on that later.
Underrated: Miami Florida
We get it; Miami didn’t get off to the start they wanted and fell to 0-2 after tight losses that included squandering 4th quarter leads to both Florida and North Carolina. However they got back on track last week torching Bethune Cookman 63-0 and should have a another tune-up this week against the Chippewas. When breaking down Miami, we have to account for having a freshman at the helm of the offense in QB Jarren Williams knowing his development is going to take time. That being said he’s already thrown for 777 yards and 6 Td’s and seems to be showing improvement with each game under his belt. Despite the record, we have to take into effect the market and where it seems to have Miami pegged. They closed +7 Week 1 against Florida (were leading in the 4th), they closed -5 at UNC (up 5 with a minute to go in the 4th), and last week covered by 22 points against Bethune Cookman. Despite the National narrative that Miami is “struggling”, this team could easily be 3-0 right now. While everyone is ready to abandon ship we at Bet the Board feel differently and believe Miami will continue its improvement as their freshman signal-caller gets more reps.
Best Bet: [351] Colorado +7.5
We touched on Arizona State in our overrated portion above and when we break down this match-up the spot for Colorado makes sense. Arizona State is off a massive road upset of nationally ranked Michigan State; headlines young teams rarely are able to shake the following week. Colorado on the other hand was humbled by Air Force yet despite the loss seems to be relishing the opportunity of getting back out there and starting conference play 1-0. The biggest issue Colorado has faced thus far is allowing the explosive plays; something Arizona State has yet to display in 180 minutes of football. The Buffs can lean on senior QB Steven Montez to step up and make big throws in this game which should force ASU freshman Jayden Daniels to do the same. Take the +7.5 with Colorado, and consider grabbin some +255 ML as well so we can see you at the window when Mel Tucker’s boys pull off the outright upset.
