1. Georgia

Why is Georgia number one? Simple -- their resume is better than Alabama's. The Bulldogs have a road win over Outkick's number three team in the nation and they've won every other game by twenty or more points.

At this point in time it would be surprising if Georgia isn't 12-0 in Atlanta.

And it would also be surprising if 12-1 Georgia, even with a loss to Alabama in Atlanta, didn't make the playoff.

2. Alabama

The Crimson Tide might well have the best team in college football, but let's be honest, what's the Tide's best win this season?

Texas A&M?

The Tide still have LSU, at Mississippi State and at Auburn left on the schedule so things will toughen up, but for now I'm dropping them to number two because Georgia's resume is more impressive.

3. Notre Dame

The Fighting Irish have a very good shot at finishing 11-1 and now have two big wins back-to-back over USC and N.C. State. Plus, they've won every game by twenty or more points except for a one point loss to Georgia.

Can Notre Dame beat Wake Forest, Miami, Navy, and Stanford now in the final four weeks of the season?

It certainly will be fun to find out.

If the Irish can pull that off, a playoff berth looks possible. The problem for the Irish? They can't get into the playoff in front of Georgia.

4. Ohio State

I know, I know Oklahoma beat the Buckeyes, but Ohio State is playing better than Oklahoma right now so I'm ranking the Buckeyes above them.

With games left at Iowa, Michigan State, Illinois and at Michigan, it's hard to see the Buckeyes losing twice, which probably means they won the Big Ten East today.

5. Penn State

The Nittany Lions were incredibly close to locking up a second straight Big Ten East title today. But then everything fell apart. And while Penn State could certainly finish 11-1, their chances of repeating as Big Ten East champs are low since that would require at least two Buckeye losses in the final four games.

But, and this would be wild, what if Michigan upsets Ohio State to finish the season?

Would an 11-1 Penn State team with a one point road loss to Ohio State get into the playoff over an 11-2 Big Ten champ Buckeye team?

Let the debate begin.

6. Miami

The Hurricanes won another close game, this one against an overmatched North Carolina team.

Now Miami has three straight home games -- Virginia Tech, Notre Dame and Virginia -- and a road game at Pittsburgh.

Win all of them and 11-0 Miami will be playing in the ACC title game for a trip to the playoff. Win three out of four and an 11-1 ACC champ Miami could also be in the mix for a playoff berth.

Basically, in year two at Miami, Mark Richt has already got the Hurricanes back into the national title picture.

7. Oklahoma

The Sooners are presently in a tight game against Texas Tech.

If they win that game -- which I think they will -- they stay here. If they lose then Washington comes in as our tenth best team.

Regardless, the Sooners have no margin for error if they want to make the playoff.

It's 12-1 and a Big 12 title or bust.

And bust looks much more likely right now.

8. Wisconsin

The Badgers got another win against another bad team.

We still have no idea how good they are, but they have a really good shot at being 12-0 and advancing to the Big Ten title game.

Pull off an upset over Ohio State there and the Badgers would be in the playoff.

9. Clemson

The Tigers beat Georgia Tech.

Looks like the game next weekend at N.C. State will be for the ACC Atlantic.

And don't overlook that final game of the year at South Carolina either. Will Muschamp's Gamecocks are playing really well.

10. TCU

The Horned Frogs fell victim to Matt Campbell's magic in Ames, Iowa.

Now Iowa State is 4-1 in the Big 12 and has tiebreakers over Oklahoma and TCU. Plus Oklahoma State still comes to town as well.

Meanwhile TCU effectively put the Big 12's playoff hopes on life support since a two loss champ is looking highly probable.
