Outkick's Top Ten For Week 5 2017

Today is the last day of September yet somehow we're already nearly halfway through the college football season. That's brutal. While other sports like the NBA, Major League Baseball and the NHL never seem to end, college football has the shortest season and the longest offseason of any major American sport.

So we have to cherish the weeks even when the top teams aren't playing.

Remember that Alumni Hall is the proud sponsor of Outkick’s Top 10 – has the best selection of top brands like Nike, Under Armour, Columbia and more. Here we go with the Outkick Top Ten for Week 5.

1.  Alabama

It's a real toss up over whether Alabama or Clemson is the best team in college football this year, but the Tide are just a machine.

After a 59-0 conference road win it would be totally normal for a team not to show up and play well.

Except Nick Saban's team is made up of robots. And the Tide rolled into the game against Ole Miss and were up 35-3 at the half.

2. Clemson

The Tigers went on the road and dominated Virginia Tech, leaving little doubt that barring a major upset the Tigers will win the ACC and get a chance to defend their title with a third straight trip to the college football playoff.

3. Georgia

Georgia delivered the worst beating to Tennessee at home since 1905.

Other than that the Bulldogs weren't that impressive.

Seriously though, Georgia looks incredible.

4. TCU

TCU had the week off, but I've still got them in the top five even though Oklahoma State looked fairly pedestrian on the road at Texas Tech.

5. Oklahoma

The Sooners also had the day off, but they remain in the top five and Baker Mayfield is still my Heisman favorite.

6. Penn State

The Nittany Lions survived on the road against Iowa and took care of Indiana early, but are they good enough to beat Ohio State in Columbus?

We'll see as I think it's likely that game decides the Big Ten East.

7. Michigan

The Wolverines were another Outkick top ten team on a bye week and Michigan remains on track to be 6-0 when they travel to Penn State on October 21st.

8. Washington State

The gambling picks haven't been on a roll of late, but I told you to take the Cougars to pull off the Friday night upset in Pullman a few weeks ago and it happened last night.

Washington State is now 5-0 and has a big game at Oregon next weekend.

9. Washington

The Huskies weren't very good in the first half, but in the second half they dominated Oregon State.

It certainly looks like the Apple Cup is likely to decide the Pac 12 North title for a second straight season.

10. Auburn

This Auburn team just keeps getting better every week.

The defense has been good all year, but Auburn has now beaten its last two SEC opponents 100-24. If Gus Malzahn can get this offense rolling, look out.

I've got Auburn here at number 10 instead of Ohio State, who I have at 11, because I liked Auburn's loss on the road at Clemson better than I did Ohio State's home loss to Oklahoma.
