OutKick The Tailgate: Major Wright Joins To Talk Origin Of His Name And His New Book

Videos by OutKick

Former NFL safety and Florida Gator Major Wright joined the OutKick the Tailgate crew in Jacksonville on Saturday morning ahead of No. 1 Georgia vs. Florida at 3:30 p.m. on CBS.

With a name like that, Wright has always had expectations to live up to. Wright said he was often picked on as a kid for his name but became to love it as he got older.

“At first I was like, ‘ah mom, I don’t really like Major’, but as I started really understanding what Major means and how powerful it was, it was like, ‘man, I love it,'” Wright said. “It stands for everything I am.”

Wright might’ve played seven years in the NFL, but the 33-year-old said that the toughest thing in his life was transitioning into something else after his career ended. It’s the main subject of his new book, “Major Pain: Confessions of a Smash Mouth Safety”, which he discussed on the show.

“I talk about my biggest obstacle, and that was to transition from football to figuring out what’s next best,” Wright said. “You know and trying to get into business or whatever.”

OutKick the Tailgate is live every Saturday morning at the site of the biggest game in the SEC that week. Join Jonathan Hutton, Chad Withrow, Jill Savage and Clay Travis every Saturday at and on OutKick’s official YouTube page.
