Outkick the Show: Tuesday, August 20, 2019

On today’s Outkick the Show, Clay Travis discussed Baker Mayfield and his public attack on New York Giants’ rookie quarterback Daniel Jones featured in GQ magazine. Clay discussed Baker Mayfield’s answer/apology/denial from his Instagram account as well as Daniel Jones’ deadpanned response. Clay also pointed out how white athletes from Duke are common targets and have been for years.

Clay went on to discuss San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy G and his abysmal performance against the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football. Garoppolo was 1-6 with 0 yards in his pre-season performance and, according to Clay, might reveal how over-hyped and overpaid he has been. He needs to play more games to know what is ahead, said Travis. Jimmy G might be another victim of the sophomore slump.

Clay also commented on Nike and the mounting evidence revealing they paid college basketball players. Michael Avenatti, as controversial as he is, has consistently brought to light the criminal activity of Nike and the media continues to ignore the story, said Travis.

Finally, Clay acknowledged The Athletic and their recent subscriber count rising to 600K. Clay congratulated them and recognized how their strategy flies in the face of the "quantity over quality" approach most content providers have unfortunately chosen to embrace.
