Oregon State was knocked out of the NCAA Tournament Monday night after a couple of turnovers down the stretch against Houston spelled doom for the Cinderella Beavs. It was an incredible run that included a 4-0 ATS record in the tournament, but it was over around 9:30 or so when the team headed off into the Lucas Oil Stadium tunnel and back to Corvallis, which they haven’t seen in a few weeks.
Ahh, but this is the 2021 NCAA Tournament and it wouldn’t be proper if there weren’t an outrage over how the Beavs were treated on the way out, this time coming from Oregonian Beavs beat writer Nick Daschel, who was all sorts of outraged early this morning.
“The NCAA had a nice parting gift for Oregon State. As soon as they got back to the hotel, they were told to pack up and get on a 1:15 a.m. flight back to Eugene. Everyone had to hurriedly pack and head to the airport. Team arrives in Corvallis at 4 am Tuesday,” a furious Daschel tweeted. “Not very classy.”

Now, let’s go back to Thursday, March 25 with the Beavs awaiting their Sweet 16 showdown with Sister Jean and Loyola-Chicago.
“Since Oregon State left Corvallis on March 9 for Las Vegas and the Pac-12 tournament, the Beavers have largely been restricted to their rooms. OSU has been at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis since March 14,” Nick wrote.
“Among the things the players could use right now: a barber. They haven’t seen one since leaving Corvallis.”
Nick wrote from a perspective that this whole bubbling in a hotel thing was starting to wear on the players who struggled through trips to TopGolf in Indianapolis and movie nights. Coach Wayne Tinkle was starting to reference boredom as a problem.
Fast-forward to Monday night after Oregon State’s loss. The NCAA enters the chat:
NCAA: Hey Beavs, we can get you out of here fast. There’s a 1:15 back to Eugene and then a 50-minute ride up I-5 to Corvallis.
Beavs: We’ll take it.
NCAA: Cool, pack up and we’ll bus you to the airport.
Beavs: See you there.
Nick: You can’t just kick these unpaid laborers out of the bubble like that!
NCAA: OMG, we’re just trying to get these guys home as quick as possible.
Nick: These unpaid laborers deserve another night locked down and another breakfast. Treat them better.
Beavs: Don’t mind Nick, we can sleep on the plane. It’ll be nice to get home.
NCAA: LOL
Nick: Not very classy, NCAA.
The Oregon State basketball team landed at the Eugene Airport this morning at 2:58 a.m. PT. 15 minutes late. Wait until Nick hears this news.
I understand that. Doesn't make it right. Teams have been through a lot. https://t.co/6trBmrJSaD

They didn’t have their main squeezes so got bored huh. Boohoo
It has always been that way
Nba teams leave right after the games for the next city. Even if they have a day off.
Sounds like more media whining. Trying to cause trouble where there is none. The Beavers said they wanted to go home and the NCAA made it happen. I actually applaud the NCAA on that one as I am sure a midnight checkout did NOT save them money on the hotel room!
