Trump On US Women's Soccer Team: 'Everything That Is Woke Goes Bad'

Former President Donald Trump says it wasn't just a lack of scoring that cost the U.S. Women's soccer team a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

"If our soccer team, headed by a radical group of Leftist Maniacs, wasn’t woke, they would have won the Gold Medal instead of the Bronze," Trump said in a statement Thursday morning. "Woke means you lose, everything that is woke goes bad, and our soccer team certainly has."

Conservative group Turning Point USA tweeted a video of Trump making similar comments about the women's soccer team, which lost 1-0 to Canada in the Olympic semifinals and thus had no chance at the gold.

"Wokeism makes you lose," Trump said, according to a video of the speech posted to Twitter by Turning Point officials.

"The U.S. Women's soccer team is a very good example of what's going on. Earlier this week they unexpectedly lost to Sweden 3-0 and Americans were happy about it ... you proved that point before I even said it."

Trump specifically called out Megan Rapinoe, who once referred to herself a "walking protest" against Trump and his policies.

Trump simply referred to her as "the woman with the purple hair," adding that her politics kept her from playing well.

So the bronze it is for the U.S. women, but as Daily Wire founder Ben Shapiro recently implied, maybe the gold wasn't their goal anyway.

"They're still the champions at kneeling though, which is the important thing," Shapiro said.
